Graduate students on graduation day

Combined Degree Programs

MUSC’s combined degree programs include an M.D./Ph.D. and D.M.D./Ph.D.

M.D./Ph.D.

The MUSC Medical Scientist Training Program (MSTP) is funded partly by a training grant from the National Institutes of General Medical Sciences (NIGMS), the Colleges of Medicine and Graduate Studies, and numerous scholarships. Several mechanisms also allow the trainee to get significant exposure to clinical and translational research during the graduate years in addition to time in medical school.

D.M.D./Ph.D.

MUSC’s dual degree Dentist Scientist Training Program (DSTP) is designed for students who wish to become dentist scientists and pursue research careers in an academic environment. This paradigm helps students concentrate on their research and clinical work for better retention and offers a more satisfactory blend of educational and patient experiences.
